Making old and new read as one building
What it is
Renovation work is harder than new construction, and the difficulty is rarely the new part. It is the existing building — walls that aren't plumb, previous coatings of unknown origin, mixed substrates meeting in one elevation, and movement that has already happened and may still be happening.
Getting an extension to read as part of the original house rather than something bolted onto it means dealing with all of that honestly: reconciling the substrates, detailing the junction so it doesn't crack, and matching finish and colour so the eye doesn't catch the join.

Our process
We assess the existing walls, coatings and any cracking, and identify what has to be dealt with before new work goes over it.
We agree the scope in writing and prepare match samples where new work has to blend into an existing finish.
Existing defects are repaired, junctions between old and new are reinforced, and coats are built up across both.
The finish coat is taken across old and new to a natural break in the building, so there's no visible line between them.

Usually very closely. We prepare sample panels against the existing wall and adjust until it reads the same. Where an exact match isn't realistic — very weathered or unusual finishes — we'll say so and suggest taking the new finish to a natural break in the building instead.
